Former Managing Director, Countries of Operations
The late Olivier Descamps was the Managing Director, Countries of Operations in the EBRD Banking Department. In this role he oversaw the strategy and management of the operations of the Bank across all of the EBRD regions. He managed 5 regional Country Managing Directors providing enhanced operational consistency across the regions.
In that capacity, he aimed to ensure that, under the matrix organisation, the role of the Country Groups was focused on strengthening the Bank’s local presence, on regional business development and policy dialogue. He was also responsible for the Small Business Initiative, one of the EBRD core strategic initiatives focused on SME origination, implementation and branding. He was a member of Strategy and Policy Committee.
Olivier joined the EBRD in 1993 and had 40 years of extensive senior management experience in global corporate finance, emerging markets and development policy. Before joining EBRD, he held several managerial positions in Chase Manhattan Group in Brazil, USA and UK (1975-1993). He graduated in Applied Economics, Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium.
He retired in 2015 and died in 2017.
