Request summary
103 citizens from the region of the Trstionica and Boriva Nature Park in Kakanj, BiH, who request for their names to remain confidential, due to fear of retaliation, grouped together to express their opposition to the development to the DFF Adriatic Metals (OP 52342) project. The group allege that since 2020 and increasingly thereafter, they have witnessed devastating damages to the area’s natural resources, including illegal cutting of forest planned to be protected under projects on both cantonal and municipal level, pollution of several sources of drinkable water serving the local communities, damages to the biodiversity populating the rivers, heavy machinery entering illegally the area causing devastation to the environment, landslides, noises, vibrations and drillings. Further allegations were raised about the lack of community engagement in the process.
In their claims, the flora and fauna of the area are severely endangered by the project, especially in terms of polluting the main water source for approximately 30000 inhabitants of the Kakanj district. The Complainants requested the activation of IPAM’s Compliance function.
