The EBRD works with the private sector, municipalities and public institutions to address climate change through its unique business model combining green investments, concessional financing, policy engagement and technical support.
Green investment and concessional financing: The EBRD provides finance at market rates and under sound banking principles. We work with bilateral and multilateral donors to help the countries where we work accelerate the transition to low carbon and resilient economies through concessional financing and innovative financial instruments.
Our partners include the Climate Investment Funds, the European Union, the Global Environment Facility, the Green Climate Fund and other bilateral donors.
Policy engagement: We engage with governments and the private sector to help countries advance their transition agenda and fulfil their Paris Agreement commitments. Through our Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) Support Programme, we help countries develop, implement and update their NDCs. We also support the measuring, reporting and verification of climate finance and impacts of climate actions.
The Bank is a member of the NDC Partnership, a global network of member states and implementing partners to promote NDCs through knowledge-sharing and country support.
In addition, we work with governments to create regulatory environments that promote green investments in several key areas, including: green buildings, renewable energy, and green cities planning. By engaging with the private sector and industry associations, we develop environmental standards and low carbon and resilient sector pathways.
Technical support: We provide our clients with a range of technical support services, including feasibility studies, energy, resource, and carbon audits. In addition, we help clients manage their climate governance and employ innovative tools that accelerate market response to climate change. Through this work, we help businesses develop green investments, identify green market opportunities and improve resilience to a changing and more variable climate.
