Reducing the risk of flooding in Moldova’s capital

By Olga Aristeidou

As Chisinau, Moldova’s capital, has grown, the river Bic has become polluted and is prone to flooding that affects local communities, infrastructure and the economy. Severe flooding is expected to become more harmful as a consequence of climate change.

A €20 million financing package from the EBRD under its flagship programme EBRD Green Cities, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) will help the city to rehabilitate the river and transform it into an attractive asset for its residents.
