What the Belt and Road Initiative means for the Region
Join us at the Central Asia Investment Forum organised by the EBRD and PBoC with sponsorship by ICBC. The Forum will be held on 14 November 2018 at the Shangri-La Hotel Beijing, China.
This international business forum will bring together government ministers and officials, policy-makers and investors from the region and beyond to explore investment opportunities – and their impact – in Central Asia. Panel discussions featuring leading international experts will cover topics ranging from renewable energy to infrastructure, agribusiness and mitigating risks in investment. A core theme will focus on the opportunities for Central Asia presented by the Belt and Road Initiative.
Come to Investing in Central Asia and you will learn about the possibilities available to Chinese and other businesses for expansion into Central Asian markets, including through cooperation with the EBRD. You will also have plenty of opportunity to meet and network with leading executives, bankers and sector specialists from the Central Asia region and beyond.

Come to the EBRD Marketplace
Meet the EBRD experts to learn about our activities, partnerships and impact across Central Asia in the Valley Ballroom Foyer.
EBRD and DONORS
Speaker: Thomas Eriksson, Associate Director, Deputy Director, DCF, EBRD
The EBRD currently works with some 50 donors who have contributed more than €6 billion to the Bank since 1991. This Marketplace session will demonstrate how we work with international donors, and how donor funds help unlock investment opportunities across Central Asia, promoting market-oriented development and economic growth, entrepreneurship, inclusion and the sustainable and efficient use of resources. Donor funds can help unlock investments opportunities that cannot be financed on purely commercial terms, and they make it possible to overcome market and institutional failures where they persist. At the same time, we use donor funds selectively, so as to avoid aid dependency or create market distortions.
ENERGY
Speaker: tbd
Directing energy sector investment towards renewables can help meet global energy and climate goals. Join this Marketplace session to discover how the EBRD is scaling up renewable investment across the whole of Central Asia, how we help shape the institutional and regulatory frameworks for renewable energy investment and use climate finance to support renewable energy projects. This event also provides the opportunity to learn more details about recent landmark EBRD projects in wind, solar, hydro and biogas in the region.
SUSTAINABILITY
Speaker: Alistair Clark, Managing Director, Environment and Sustainability, EBRD
Sustainability is at the heart of the EBRD’s mandate. At this Marketplace session, discover we ensure that projects are socially and environmentally sustainable, respect the rights of affected workers and communities and are designed and operated in compliance with good international practices and standards. We are committed to transparency and accountability, especially when it comes to risk management and project performance. This session will also present some case studies from the most recent edition of EBRD’s Sustainability Report.
RISK MITIGATION
Speaker: tbd
Investment projects in Central Asia can be exposed to a wide range of risks. This Marketplace session shows how and why the EBRD is best placed to offer clients a wide spectrum of services, activities and benefits that can help mitigate these risks. It also discusses our use of private sector country diagnostics which highlight the key challenges facing private companies and investors, and presents key findings from recent diagnostics undertaken for Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
