State-run enterprises in Belarus often run into financial difficulty when trying to cover the cost of modernisation.
This was the problem regional state-owned bakery Gomelklebprom faced after taking out multiple loans to pay for new machinery.
The bakery was unable to keep up with loan payments and became the state bank’s largest NPL client.
However instead of taking the traditional approach and taking the bakery to court, the new Insitution Building Programme run by Belinvestbank with support from the EBRD, gave the bakery a second chance.
Watch the story of how bakery-owner Natalia Veromeeva worked with the bank and advisors to turn the business around.
