Project description

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (the “EBRD” or the “Bank”) has been requested to provide finance to Société Tunisienne de l’Électricité et du Gaz (“STEG” or the “Company” or the “Borrower”), Tunisia’s state-owned integrated power utility, for the reinforcement of their transmission infrastructure. STEG is Tunisia’s 100% state-owned vertically integrated national electricity and gas utility company, and is administered by the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Energy (the “Ministry of Energy” or the “MoE”). STEG has the monopoly on distribution and transmission of electricity and gas and acts as the single buyer for all the electricity generation.

The proceeds of the loan will be used to finance a 400 kv transmission line between Grombalia and Kondar (D1) and its associated infrastructures (entry/exit lines):

• 85 km 400kv double circuit, double beam 2*570 mm2 Grombalia 2- Kondar overhead line
• 5 km entry/exit to the 400kv Mornaguia- Mlaabi line at the 400kv Grombalia 2 substation
• 10 km entry/exit to the 225kv Ezzahra- Grombalia 1 line at the 225kv Grombalia 2 substation
• 10 km entry/exit to the 225kv Seltene- Grombalia 1 line at the 225kv Grombalia 2 substation

This overhead transmission line constitutes an integral part of a key electricity transmission corridor from South of Tunisia to the North of Tunisia and future export of the renewable energy to Italy
