In February 2023, a series of violent earthquakes struck southern and central Türkiye and northern and western Syria, resulting in widespread damage and fatalities across the region.
In the weeks that followed the earthquakes, the EBRD announced a comprehensive two-year response package of €1.5 billion. The package includes credit lines to individuals and companies affected by the earthquakes, as well as infrastructure investments and support for small and medium-sized enterprises and private sector partnerships.
The Bank also aims to develop technical cooperation projects with municipalities, local community-based organisations, and service providers for an inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable reconstruction phase.
These projects will cover three main areas:
Currently we have two projects supporting CSOs working on the affected regions. One of the projects is supporting the digital transformation of CSOs working in the earthquake region, and the other project is supporting better integration of refugee and local women into the economy in the affected regions.
