Fatoumata Bouaré assumed the role of EBRD Vice President, Chief Risk Officer in May 2025.
Her responsibilities include overseeing the Risk Management Department, the Environmental and Sustainability Department, the Business Resilience Department, and the Procurement Policy and Advisory Department. She chairs the Risk Committee and leads the EBRD’s Crisis Management team during a period of expanding geographic reach and strategic transformation. She is also a member of the Executive Committee, the Operations Committee, and the Asset and Liability Committee.
Ms Bouaré joined the EBRD from FMO, the Dutch entrepreneurial development bank, where she served for seven years, strengthening risk departments and pioneering innovation in digitalisation and impact reporting, while ensuring financial stability throughout a period of significant growth.
Prior to her tenure at FMO, Ms Bouaré was the Director of Risk Management for the Bank of Africa, where she oversaw risk management operations across the group and its 18 affiliates.
Ms Bouaré brings extensive experience in both development and commercial banking, with a strong focus on fostering resilient and sustainable risk management frameworks.
Ms Bouaré is a national of Côte d’Ivoire, the newest member country of the EBRD, aligning closely with the Bank's strategic expansion into sub-Saharan Africa. Her appointment underscores the Bank’s commitment to inclusive growth and environmental sustainability.
