MENA ES 2013-2015

The Middle East and North Africa Enterprise Surveys (MENA ES) are a joint initiative of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank Group (the World Bank) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). The survey was undertaken on behalf of the EBRD, World Bank and EIB for the first time in 2013-2015, when it was administered to approximately 6,500 enterprises in 9 countries in the MENA region to assess the environment for private enterprise and business development. It included an Innovation Module, covering product, process, organisational and marketing innovation, as well as management practices in manufacturing enterprises with at least 20 employees.

A report summarising feedback from the managers of firms in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia about what they regard as the main challenges in the business environment that they experience on a daily basis is available here.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the World Bank Group (WBG), have joined forces to obtain a common understanding of the constraints that the private sector in the Middle East and North Africa region faces. A joint report that presents this understanding, “What’s holding back the private sector in MENA ? Lessons from the Enterprise Survey”, is now available.
