The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will bring its investment and private-sector expertise to the COP31 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Antalya, Türkiye, as it seeks to help turn climate ambition into investment and implementation. COP31 will take place from 9 to 20 November 2026.

The EBRD’s delegation will include its President, Odile Renaud-Basso, its Vice President for Policy and Partnerships, Mark Bowman, and its Vice President for Banking, Matteo Patrone, as well as senior representatives of the Bank’s climate, banking, and environmental and social teams.

The EBRD will use its presence at the conference to show how private investment, policy reform and partnerships between governments, businesses and development institutions can accelerate the transition to greener, more resilient economies. The Bank will also take part in the joint statement of the multilateral development banks, expected to be announced during the first week of the conference.

Odile Renaud-Basso, EBRD President, said: “EBRD is a longstanding partner of Türkiye, and we welcome the global leadership it is showing as the host of COP31. We support the ambitious Action Agenda it has set. We are ready to help deliver that agenda, which goes hand in hand with our Green Economy Transition Strategy 2026-30.

“Investing in energy efficiency, energy security, decarbonisation and electrification - all of which are so important for combatting climate change - remains at the core of what we do. Not despite the turbulent times we are in, but because of them.

"Green investment keeps our clients competitive, and their businesses running, when everything else is in flux. The green transition represents a valuable opportunity, and we are ready to support it.”

The Bank’s priorities for COP31 will include electrification and the energy transition, green industrialisation, climate adaptation and resilience, country platforms and private-sector mobilisation.

Türkiye, one of the EBRD’s largest countries of operation and a longstanding partner, will be at the heart of the Bank’s COP31 programme. The EBRD has invested more than €26 billion in the country to date and is a leading provider of climate finance there, with €14 billion invested in green finance.

At COP31, the Bank will highlight practical examples of how investment can foster industrial decarbonisation, promote renewable energy and help to make businesses and infrastructure more resilient while supporting the competitiveness of economies going through the green transition.

Country platforms remain an important part of this agenda. In Türkiye, the EBRD has been working with the government and international partners on the Türkiye Industrial Decarbonisation Investment Platform, which aims to deploy €5 billion of investment by 2030 for industrial decarbonisation.

During the conference, the EBRD delegation will attend the Leaders’ Summit, the COP31 Global Finance Summit (co-hosted by Bloomberg, the EBRD, the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero and the World Bank) and the COP31 Business and Investment Summit (hosted by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye). The Bank will also participate in events at the Joint MDB Pavilion and other COP31 venues.

With COP31 putting implementation in the spotlight, the EBRD will reaffirm that delivering on climate goals at scale requires greater mobilisation of private finance, strong investment frameworks and close cooperation between the public and private sectors.
