The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a sustainability-linked loan of up to US$ 150 million to Enerjisa Enerji Üretim A.Ş. (Enerjisa Üretim), one of Türkiye’s largest independent power producers.
The long-term financing will replace short-term debt used for renewable energy investments, helping Enerjisa Üretim to strengthen its balance sheet and continue its renewable energy expansion programme. The investment will also contribute to Türkiye’s energy security by supporting additional domestic renewable generation.
Enerjisa Üretim is one of Türkiye’s largest independent power producers, with approximately 4.7 GW of installed capacity across 37 power plants. Its portfolio includes hydro, wind and solar generation alongside thermal assets.
The loan is linked to ambitious sustainability targets. Enerjisa Enerji Üretim has committed to increasing its installed renewable energy capacity and reducing its CO2 emissions.
Harry Boyd-Carpenter, Managing Director of the EBRD’s Sustainable Infrastructure Group, said: “This sustainability-linked financing reflects our long-standing partnership with Enerjisa Üretim and our shared commitment to accelerating Türkiye’s energy transition. By combining long-term financing with clear renewable energy and emissions targets, the project will strengthen the company’s resilience, support new capacity and contribute to greater energy security.”
Mert Yaycıoğlu, Enerjisa Üretim’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, said: “Our collaboration with the EBRD is an important part of our long-term financing strategy and reflects the strength of the partnerships we have built with leading international financial institutions. This new US$ 150 million financing will support our renewable energy investments and contribute to the continued expansion of our generation portfolio. At Enerjisa Üretim, we remain focused on combining financial discipline with sustainable growth, while continuing to invest in projects that support Türkiye’s energy transition. We greatly value the mutual trust and strong partnership we have built with the EBRD over the years and look forward to further strengthening our collaboration.”
The EBRD has supported Enerjisa Üretim’s renewable energy investments for many years, including by financing wind-power projects in 2012, 2023 and 2025.
The EBRD is a key institutional investor in Türkiye, having committed more than €25 billion to the country since 2009, largely in the private sector.
