The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Maya Hennerkes as Managing Director of its Environment and Sustainability Department, effective 15 September 2025.
Ms Hennerkes, a German national, has played a central role in shaping the Bank’s sustainable finance agenda. In her previous position as Director of Green Financial Systems in the Climate Strategy and Delivery team, she led the development of the EBRD’s approaches to Paris alignment and the green economy transition, as well as major initiatives on green capital markets.
She joined the EBRD in 2019 after senior roles at the Inter-American Development Bank and IDB Invest, where she gained extensive experience in environmental and social risk management, sustainability policy and accountability mechanisms.
The EBRD’s Environment and Sustainability Department ensures that all investments comply with the Bank’s environmental and social policy requirements. It also works with clients to strengthen their sustainability practices and drives innovation in areas such as climate resilience, biodiversity and inclusive transition, supporting the EBRD’s mission to foster sustainable growth.
Ms Hennerkes succeeds Henrik Linders, who left the Bank at the end of August.
