The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has slightly reduced its equity stake in BNP Paribas Bank Polska, the sixth largest lender in Poland. The Bank sold 2.345 million shares in an accelerated bookbuild placement on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE).
The shares sold on 8th July 2025 represent 1.6 per cent of BNP Paribas Bank Polska’s total shares. The EBRD retains a 2.9 percent stake in its longstanding partner.
The Bank acquired 4.5 per cent stake in the Polish lender in 2018 to support BNP Paribas Bank Polska’s acquisition of the core assets of Raiffeisen Bank Polska S.A. The EBRD also aimed to support the plans of the majority owner, BNP Paribas S.A., to maintain and gradually increase the free float of BNP Paribas Bank Polska’s shares on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.
Throughout the years, BNP Paribas Bank Polska has proved its strong business model, ability to manoeuvre through challenges affecting the sector, and commitment to support sustainable growth in Poland. EBRD-BNP Paribas Bank Polska partnership has expanded over the last few years through other commitments on the ground, in particular, supporting the green transition in Poland. More recently, EBRD extended an unfunded portfolio guarantee to BNP Paribas Bank Polska under InvestEU program to unlock €100 million of new financing for residential green projects.
By reducing its stake, the EBRD is helping to increase the liquidity of BNP Paribas Bank Polska’s shares on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. The Bank remains confident in BNP Paribas Bank Polska’s future prospects, as well as in prospects for the Polish banking sector and economy.
BNP Paribas Bank Polska, a subsidiary of the French Group BNP Paribas, is a universal Polish bank. It is listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. BNP Paribas Bank Polska offers sustainable financing products to a broad range of customer segments and aims to be a leader in sustainable finance.
In 2024, EBRD invested a record €1.4 billion in Poland. Since cooperation began in 1991, the Bank has committed €16 billion to 565 projects in the country, of which 95 per cent is in the private sector.
