EBRD welcomes conclusion of report on European Financial Architecture for Development

Author: Anthony Williams

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) notes the work and reflections of the report of the High-level Group of Wise Persons Group (WPG) on the European Financial Architecture for Development.

The Wise Persons Group has been appointed by the Council of the European Union with the aim to consider challenges and opportunities for improving and rationalising the European financial architecture for development (dealing for example with the respective roles of the EIB and of the EBRD) and possible scenarios for its evolution.

Throughout the process, the EBRD has engaged with the WPG under the able leadership of Thomas Wieser. The EBRD welcomes the conclusion of the report with its recognition of the effectiveness of the Bank’s model which focuses on developing the private sector.

Any decisions affecting the Bank, ultimately, would be made within the context of the EBRD’s own governance.

The EBRD stands ready to continue delivering and is poised to do even more. We will continue to engage where and if appropriate with shareholders.
