Green horizons: climate transition for banks in emerging markets

Financial leaders from emerging markets will discuss the complex journey towards climate alignment, guided by insights from the EBRD’s 2025 Climate Transition of Financial Institutions report. As the Bank’s partner financial institutions strive to balance ambitious climate goals with market realities, they are encountering unique sociopolitical, economic and institutional challenges.

The expert speakers will explore these dynamics, examining how traditional financial stability can coexist with green finance initiatives. Drawing on case studies from eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the speakers will share their experience of overcoming barriers, fostering climate leadership and employing resilience-building tools.

This session will provide valuable perspectives on how strong climate governance and strategic partnerships can drive meaningful climate transitions, even in the most challenging environments. It will also offer attendees actionable strategies to support sustainable finance within their own institutions and regions.
