Investor Report on Sustainability

The Investor Report on Sustainability 2024 provides an account of how the Bank's commitments to sustainability are embedded in all EBRD activities, through strategies, policies, operations and governance. While designed to provide information for investors, the report may be of interest to a wider group of stakeholders. It can be read in conjunction with our Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Report 2024 – Sustainability Disclosures.

The EBRD’s Sustainability Report for 2023 looks at a year in which the Bank continued to deliver on the sustainability goals set by our shareholders, against a backdrop of alarming geopolitical tension, inflationary pressures and environmental challenges. Our investments in the green economy reached a record level of €6.5 billion in 2023, a result that the EBRD could not have achieved without the collaboration of our clients, shareholders, donors, co-financers and civil-society organisations. We also made significant progress on promoting economic inclusion, with our share of “gender SMART” projects increasing to 44 per cent. The Sustainability Report 2022 explores the many ways in which the EBRD worked over the course of the year to prepare its regions for a stronger, more resilient and sustainable future. It details how the Bank responded to multiple crises, including the impact of the invasion of Ukraine, and the global emergencies of climate change and biodiversity loss.

The Sustainability Report 2021 explores the many ways in which the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has had an impact this year, making a real difference to the daily lives of millions of people on three continents. 2021 was a milestone year for environmental and social sustainability and the EBRD was proud to contribute to global efforts to address climate change, project nature and advance equality. The Sustainability Report 2020 explores the many ways the EBRD created impact during the year, making a real difference to the daily lives of millions of people across three continents. It details the Bank’s significant operational support for sustainable development. In 2020, the EBRD responded quickly and flexibly with its Solidarity Package to support clients and economies affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Through our Strategic and Capital Framework for 2021-25, we laid the foundations to further enhance this work, and we put in place the next phase of our Green Economy Transition approach.
