As the war on Ukraine has raged on, countless, innocent lives have been upended – people have been forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in neighbouring countries. The vast majority are women.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is not only supporting Ukraine’s economy as part of its response to Russia’s war on Ukraine, but is also supporting human capital development and resilience of communities.
The Bank has launched a project to support the economic integration of Ukrainian refugees in Croatia. The initiative, in partnership with two Croatia-based civil society organisations, the SVOJA Association and the Solidarna Foundation, targets the broader participation of Ukrainians in the labour market with a focus on the private sector.
Established in 2022, SVOJA has emerged as a beacon of hope for displaced Ukrainians seeking employment and independence. With a network of thousands of Ukrainian refugees, SVOJA has offered a lifeline of assistance, providing crucial employment advice, guidance on CV preparation and access to free Croatian language courses.
These efforts have been instrumental in empowering Ukrainian women to navigate the intricacies of the Croatian job market and overcome language barriers.
This short documentary follows the stories of three Ukrainian refugees who have settled in Croatia, eager to rebuild their lives and contribute to their new communities.
