Helping Serbia align its water and wastewater systems with EU standards

Author: Bojana Vlajcic

Preventing pollution and bringing sewerage to more households.

Less than 10% of wastewater is treated in Serbia and Subotica is one of the few cities with wastewater treatment systems in line with EU standards.

With the support of the European Union and Western Balkans Investment Framework, we helped the city to construct new water and wastewater treatment plants, and to extend sewerage and water networks to cover more households.

The improved wastewater treatment system also prevents the pollution of Lake Palić, one of the top five tourist destinations in the country.
