Addressing uranium legacy in Central Asia

By EBRD  Press Office
@ebrd

After much careful preparation, work on the ground has just begun to address one of the Soviet Union’s forgotten legacies: the radioactive and toxic waste blighting the land and those who live on it around former Soviet uranium mines in Central Asia.

This EBRD-managed programme, kick-started by the European Union, will safeguard human health and the environment. It will also give a much-needed boost to local economies, and address the very real threat of a far greater, cross-border pollution crisis.
