Dirk Werner has been appointed as the EBRD’s new Managing Director for Equity. In this role, he will oversee the Bank’s direct investments and equity funds, while continuing to lead its Venture Capital Investment Programme (VCIP). He will take up his new position on 1 September 2023.
Mr Werner said: “I am very excited to be given the opportunity to further strengthen EBRD’s equity business, which creates positive social, economic and environmental impact for our clients and the countries we work in. I am also very much looking forward to leading one of the Bank’s most dynamic teams.”
A German national, he joined the Bank in 2015 as Director for Information and Communications Technology (ICT). During his tenure, in tune with industry and technological changes, ICT was transformed into Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT).
Mr Werner is a seasoned international banking professional. Prior to joining the EBRD, he held managerial positions at financial institutions including Sberbank, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley. As Managing Director for Equity, he succeeds Hassan El Khatib, who retired from the Bank recently.
