Author: Olga Rosca

Bank celebrates a decade of investment in Turkey, launches new five-year strategy

A senior EBRD delegation led by President Suma Chakrabarti will pay a two-day visit to Turkey from 11 to 12 September 2019. The President will be joined by First Vice President Jurgen Rigterink and Vice President Betsy Nelson.

The EBRD is a major investor in Turkey and has invested €11.5 billion in almost 300 projects over the past ten years. 97 per cent of EBRD investments in Turkey are in the private sector. These are combined with support for policies which help modernise the country’s economy and build up its resilience.

The visit will mark 10 years of the EBRD’s work in Turkey, which is now the Bank’s largest market by portfolio size.

President Chakrabarti will meet the country’s leadership in Ankara to take stock of the Bank’s robust contribution to the Turkish economy over the past decade and discuss the reforms needed to unlock further investment and help the country realise its full economic potential.

He will announce the new strategy which will guide the EBRD engagement and policy work in Turkey for the period between 2019 and 2024.

The programme also includes a panel discussion with high-ranking representatives of the Turkish business community at a celebration which will be attended by Berat Albayrak, Turkey’s EBRD Governor and Minister of Treasury and Finance.
