EBRD President Chakrabarti to stress private sector development model at IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings

EBRD President Sir Suma Chakrabarti will attend the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. from 18-23 April, holding talks with leaders of other international financial institutions (IFIs) and senior representatives from EBRD member countries.

During public appearances, the EBRD President will highlight the Bank’s private sector operating model, demonstrating the importance of leveraging private sector capital and expertise in order to achieve the new Sustainable Development Goals that were agreed globally in 2015.

In his discussions, the President will be able to look back on another year of record investment in the 36 countries where the EBRD promotes private sector development to create integrated, inclusive and environmentally sustainable societies.

In addition to financing projects worth €9.4 billion in 2016, the EBRD also made a profit of €1 billion, providing another strong basis for future investments.

At the 2017 Global Infrastructure Forum to be hosted by the Inter-American Development Bank on 22 April, Sir Suma and other IFI heads will address the challenge of “Delivering Inclusive and Sustainable Infrastructure”, one of the EBRD’s own top priorities.

During this session, President Chakrabarti will highlight the EBRD’s focus on innovation in the field of infrastructure, engaging private sector finance and collaborating with other development banks.

The President’s participation at the meetings concludes with a full session of the heads of multilateral development banks on the morning of 23 April.
