EBRD Directors visit Morocco

A delegation from the EBRD's Board of Directors is visiting Morocco on 3-6 June. The visit is part of a regular series of consultations that enable EBRD Directors to better understand the priorities for the local economy and to maintain close dialogue with the authorities, civil society and the private sector.

Representatives from the Board of Directors include:

  • Peter Basch: European Union
  • Zbigniew Hockuba: Bulgaria, Poland, Albania
  • Abel Mateus: Greece, Portugal
  • Irena Sodin: Belgium, Slovenia, Luxembourg
  • Joachim Steffens: Germany

During the visit, the EBRD Board of Directors together with Hildegard Gacek, the Managing Director for the southern and eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region, and Laurent Chabrier, the EBRD Country Director for Morocco, will meet Mohamed Boussaid, Minister of Economy and Finance, Salaheddine Mezouar, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Moulay Hafid El Alamy, Minister of Industry, Trade and Digital Economy and with Abdelatif Jouahri, Governor of Bank Al Maghreb.

The EBRD delegation will also hold meetings with the General Manager of Office National de l’Electricité et de l’Eau (ONEE), Ali Fassi Fihri, as well as Miriem Bensalah-Chaqroun, President of the Confédération Générale des Entreprises du Maroc (CGEM).

The four-day visit to Rabat and Casablanca will include meetings with representatives of international financial institutions, the European Union, civil society organisations, members of the business community and clients of the EBRD’s Small Business Support programme.

To date, the EBRD has invested €273 million in 14 projects and has provided technical assistance support to 90 small and medium-sized Moroccan enterprises.
