EBRD President on Poland's growing role in Europe

EBRD President Thomas Mirow stressed the growing political importance of  Poland in Europe in a speech on Monday which also praised the country's recent economic success.

In a lecture to professors and students at the Warsaw University, President Mirow also outlined the challenges still facing the Polish economy, among them possible withdrawal of liquidity from the country's financial sector.

Thomas Mirow made clear that the EBRD remained a strong and reliable partner for Poland where the Bank expects to invest 500 to 600 million euro in 2012.

According to the President, some of the important areas of reform for Poland are continuing structural reforms, encouraging the knowledge economy, supporting a new model for sustainable banking.
