Zhyldyz Asanakunova, the owner of Almaluu Yurt Camp in the Kyrgyz Republic, uses her business to promote greater understanding of the nomadic traditions and cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people.
“As a woman, it takes strong leadership to manage a business such as this one,” she says. “You have to be tough – and quick-witted.”
With support from the EBRD and the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative, Zhyldyz has also been able to make her business more sustainable and to attract more tourists. Her revenue rose by 20%, staffing grew by 50%, and electricity use dropped by 40%.
