Central Asia: on the road to sustainable energy

Some of the most carbon-intensive in the world, Central Asian electricity systems are facing the dual challenge of energy security and climate change.  The region’s abundant solar and wind potential calls for combined efforts by policymakers, investors and financiers to scale up renewables as a cornerstone of the regional energy transition. 

The panel will discuss the regulatory changes, financing mechanisms including the role of MDB finance and technologies necessary to drive decarbonisation forward while improving the security and resilience of regional energy systems. 

Leading investors, financiers and policymakers will brainstorm on how to expedite the adoption and deployment of renewables at scale, how to attract multi-billion private-sector investments and how to ensure affordable end-user prices. 

The discussion will showcase Central Asia’s remarkable progress to date and provide a forward-looking view of deploying innovative technologies and new energy vectors.
