  • Meeting will feature discussions, new partnerships and agreements for accelerating urban climate action

On 22 and 23 June, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will host the Green Cities Mayors’ Meeting 2026 at its headquarters in London, bringing together city leaders, private-sector partners and thought leaders to mark a decade of progress and accelerate the next phase of sustainable urban development.

Over the past 10 years, the EBRD’s Green Cities programme has helped its partner cities to cut emissions, improve air quality and raise living standards for more than 80 million people. The programme, which now encompasses 60 cities on three continents, has shown how cities can lead the green transition by moving quickly from planning to delivery, even in challenging environments.

The conference will open with a keynote address by EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso, which will set out the critical role that cities have to play in responding to the intensification of climate impacts and multiple other global challenges. Discussions throughout the day will look at how cities can deliver practical solutions at scale, combining investment, policy advice and stakeholder engagement.

The flagship “Decade of Impact” session will bring together mayors from across the EBRD regions, including Luc Gnacadja of Cotonou, Andriy Sadovyi of Lviv and Fatma Şahin of Gaziantep. Moderated by the BBC’s Lucy Hockings, with input from Josué Tanaka, Principal Finance Advisor to the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, the session will look at how cities finance green projects to improve their citizens’ quality of life and will be livestreamed here at 10.00 BST on 22 June.

The meeting will also focus on next-generation urban solutions, featuring a conversation with Kaohsiung’s Deputy Mayor, Charles Lin, on artificial intelligence and digital technologies. Other highlights will include discussions on electrification, heat stress, housing, and cleaner and more affordable energy, as well as the modernisation of waste and wastewater systems.

The conference is being supported by the TaiwanBusiness-EBRD Technical Cooperation Fund and the Green Climate Fund.

Working across three continents, the EBRD partners with cities through targeted investments and policy support to accelerate climate resilience, improve quality of life and modernise municipal services.
