- EBRD and Korea Water Resources Corporation partner to promote energy and water security across EBRD economies
- New Memorandum of Understanding signed in London HQ
- Partnership to focus on technical assistance and cooperation as well investments in water and wastewater resources, and energy efficiency projects.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water), Korea’s premier public organization that specializes in water resources management in the Republic of Korea, have agreed to cooperate more closely to promote water and energy security across the EBRD regions.
The two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding today that envisages greater cooperation and strategic investments in areas critical for promoting a green and sustainable economy, such as water and wastewater resources, as well as energy efficiency and supply.
Areas of collaboration will include knowledge sharing, capacity building and technical assistance, as well as co-investments in projects that align with the two institutions’ missions to support the transition to sustainable economies. A specific focus will be paid to identifying opportunities to deepen cooperation to “build back better” in Ukraine, where vast investment is needed to restore municipal and public infrastructure amidst the destruction caused by Russia’s war. With K-water’s extensive experience in the restoration of water resources and urban water supply management as part of South Korea’s reconstruction cooperation group, the partnership will strengthen water-related restoration efforts in Ukraine.
Aida Sitdikova, Director, Head of Energy Eurasia in the EBRD’s Sustainable Infrastructure Group, said: “Both K-Water and EBRD are working to implement projects which support the green transition, and support access to critical resources such as water and energy. Today’s agreement will pave a way to our cooperation and guide our future work for more positive impact in EBRD countries of operation.”
