The First Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Jürgen Rigterink, is visiting North Macedonia on Monday and Tuesday for meetings with the government and the business community. The visit will be an opportunity to reiterate the Bank’s commitment to the country.
Mr Rigterink said: “North Macedonia has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, but responded firmly and with resilience to the crisis. Now it is time to move forward and return to economic progress and growth, a development that has to be green, inclusive and sustainable. These are also the EBRD’s priorities and we stand ready to support the country as it comes out of the crisis and builds a better future.”
During his stay in Skopje the EBRD First Vice President will meet, among others, Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Fatmit Bytyqi, Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov, Minister of Finance and EBRD Governor Fatmir Besimi and Minister of Transport and Communication Blagoj Bocvarski.
Mr Rigterink will also talk to representatives of the local and international business community and participate in the annual conference of the Macedonian Ministry of Finance under the title “Economic Recovery and Growth beyond Covid-19”. In his intervention the EBRD First Vice President will speak about “Public and Private Investments and Competitiveness”.
The EBRD is a major institutional investor in North Macedonia. To date, it has invested more than €2.1 billion in 146 projects in the country. Supporting the private sector and the green transition are priorities for the Bank addressing the country’s most pressing challenges.
