  • New project under risk-sharing facility between EBRD and DemirBank

Manufacturers of fast-moving consumer goods and beverages across Central Asia will enjoy greater variety and availability of packaging following the expansion of Plasform, a Kyrgyz Republic-based producer of polymer preforms, supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and DemirBank.

Plasform will receive a US$ 4.6 million from DemirBank with half of the risk shared by the EBRD under a risk-sharing facility between the two financial institutions. The loan will finance the company’s working capital needs and also be used to acquire new, efficient equipment to boost production capacity by 40 per cent and bring the annual output of preforms to 570 million units.

Plasform will also benefit from a grant of up to US $100,000 under the Bank’s Kyrgyz Sustainable Energy Financing Facility supported by the European Union, and a €250,000 investment grant from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance of Turkey.

Between 2017 and 2020, the company engaged international experts to improve its strategic planning and accounting practices under the EBRD’s Advice for Small Businesses supported by Switzerland through the EBRD Small Business Impact Fund.

Plasform, firmly established in the Kyrgyz Republic and Central Asia, has been operational since 1998. It is supplying performs for soft drinks, oils, dairy products, cosmetics and detergents to major industry players in Central Asia including to the subsidiaries of Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.

To date, the EBRD has invested €795 million through 191 projects in the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic, with a majority of investments supporting private entrepreneurship.
