Sexual harassment influences women’s mobility, labour participation and productivity. More than 80 per cent of women report feeling unsafe while travelling in Egypt, creating a gap between those with access to opportunities and those without.

With the help of Japan and the SEMED Multi-Donor Account (Australia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Taipei China and the United Kingdom), the EBRD has assisted Egyptian National Railways (ENR) in identifying measures to address the problem of sexual harassment on trains and to adjust its operations to deliver gender-responsive train services.
