  • EBRD supports venture capital fund Movens Fund 2 with €10 million investment
  • Fund to back tech founders in central and eastern Europe, from pre-seed to Series A+ stages
  • New fund follows the success of Fund 1, which saw portfolio companies raise over 8 times the original fund size in follow-on capital

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has committed €10 million to Movens Fund 2, a new fund raised by Movens Capital, a multi-stage venture capital firm backing technology companies from central and eastern Europe (CEE).

With Fund 2, Movens Capital will provide critical funding to young firms across enterprise software, AI, climate tech, fintech, healthcare, e-commerce infrastructure and the future of work. The fund will make around 30 investments predominantly in Poland, but also in other countries in CEE.

The launch follows the success of Movens Fund 1, which provided early backing to a number of breakout startups across the region and helped secure over €110 million in follow-on funding for its portfolio companies.

With this investment, the EBRD reinforces its commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of the region’s enterprises by supporting the development of venture capital financing as a vital alternative to traditional funding sources. The growth of venture capital funds is instrumental in enabling high-potential, innovative companies to scale and drive economic transformation across CEE.

Anne Fossemalle, Director, Equity Funds at the EBRD, said: “We are delighted to back Movens’ new fund and help empower the next generation of tech founders in central and eastern Europe. Supporting the growth of the venture capital and private equity ecosystem is a key priority for the Bank here, and we are confident that this partnership will scale up new innovative and high-potential companies.”

Artur Banach, Managing Partner at Movens Capital, said: “Movens Capital is the launch pad for ambitious CEE tech founders aiming for global leadership. As former tech entrepreneurs, we actively support portfolio companies with meaningful operational expertise and strategic guidance. Backed by a uniquely engaged community of top-tier tech executives and advisers, we leverage their deep industry experience and networks to help founders rapidly scale and achieve lasting success globally.”

The EBRD is a leading institutional investor in Poland and the broader CEE region. To date, the Bank has invested almost €16 billion in Poland. Promoting the development of capital markets and supporting digitalisation are two key priorities for the EBRD’s work in the region.
