How capital mobilisation delivers impact, from Central Asia to sub-Saharan Africa

Increasing impact through additional private investment is a key promise of the multilateral development banks’ (MDBs) mobilisation agenda. While the amount of mobilised capital and the variety of mobilisation instruments have grown, the resulting transition impact is not yet well understood. In addition, individual financing instruments do not offer a one-size-fits-all solution to delivering impact. Proposed solutions and interventions must be based on an understanding of the local context. The EBRD has undertaken a study to understand the role of capital mobilisation in producing transition impact and enduring strength in three of the economies where it invests, Uzbekistan, Serbia and Romania.

This event will share the highlights of the study to explore how capital mobilisation can help expand horizons in sub-Saharan Africa, based on lessons learned from the EBRD region, and gain insights from the experience of investors active in Africa. This rich discussion panel will include regional specialists, economists, MDB representatives and private-sector investors.
