Project Description
Emergency extension of the mobile GSM network, which has been overwhelmed by increasing demand, and modernisation of Makedonski Telekomunikacii's information system to allow for more efficient operation.
The project aims to:
- respond to the urgent, increasing need for communications, by doubling the capacity of MT's GSM network to 70,000 subscribers; and
- increase MT efficiency and quality of service through a gradual implementation of a new information system.
Transition Impact
The loan contains significant incentives for the privatisation of MT and for improved corporate governance. MT's privatisation will be one of the first and most visible privatisations of the infrastructure in the country.
