Jelena Madir has been appointed as the new Managing Director, Chief Compliance Officer for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). In this role, she will lead the Office of the Chief Compliance Officer (OCCO) and will be responsible for promoting good governance and the highest standards of integrity across all activities of the Bank. She will take up her new position on 2 October 2023.

EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso said: “Jelena's breadth of experience and her focus on operational excellence position her well for this critical role of protecting the integrity of the Bank.”

Ms Madir joined the EBRD in 2009. Her most recent role was as Director, Chief Counsel in the Financial Law Unit of the Legal Transition team, where she successfully led a team providing advisory services in the areas of corporate governance, fintech, insolvency and restructuring, and access to finance.

In 2019 Ms Madir joined Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, taking up the role of General Counsel. In this role she was instrumental in setting up and operating the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) Facility, a global programme for the development, production and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines to over 160 countries.

As Managing Director, Chief Compliance Officer, Ms Madir replaces Bernd Träxler, who left the EBRD recently.
