A new ‘Skills Road’? Building human capital in Central Asia

By EBRD multimedia team

English, Russian and Uzbek Simultaneous Interpretation is available for this event through the Interactio app

How can economies most effectively harness the enormous human capital potential that a growing, young and diverse population can bring? And how can this potential be turned into a catalyst for sustainable growth, especially in the face of multiple challenges – from climate change to economic fragility and the digital revolution?

As Central Asia prepares to transition from resource-based to knowledge-based societies, these questions are increasingly relevant. Invariably, providing equal opportunity goes a long way towards addressing them.

If young people had access to quality education and jobs or were able to easily start and maintain their own businesses, fewer would leave their countries in search of economic opportunities. If redundant workers could upskill, effective re-allocations could take place and livelihoods could be protected.

This panel will bring together leading international policymakers, thinkers and business leaders to discuss how a new “Skills Road” can deliver economic growth and prosperity in Central Asia and beyond.
