In recognition of International Anti-Corruption Day, the EBRD is pleased to invite you to a talk by the multi-award winning Financial Times journalist and author, Dan McCrum.

Dan will talk about his journey uncovering the billion-dollar Wirecard fraud and the focus of his first book: Money Men: A Hot Start-Up, A Billion Dollar Fraud, A Fight for the Truth.

Dan’s courageous journalism, described as the “financial investigation of the decade”, was instrumental in uncovering this scandal. His talk will highlight the thrilling story of the astonishing rise and crashing fall Wirecard, which has also been made into the Netflix feature documentary Skandal! Bringing Down Wirecard.

The $30 billion German fintech Wirecard fraud is one of the biggest economic scandals in recent history. There are several lessons to be learned from its demise, as it revealed major weaknesses in not only institutional controls and corporate governance but also in the effectiveness of market oversight and supervision. Beyond the scandal itself, this is a story of integrity, courage, perseverance and a work environment that fosters and facilitates these values.

We hope you will join us for what promises to be an insightful talk! This is a hybrid event for those unable to join in person.
