President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso will visit Uzbekistan on 16-18 November to meet with senior government officials, participate in the Foreign Investors’ Council and the Samarkand EU-Central Asia Connectivity Conference: Global Gateway.

In a two-day programme, President Renaud-Basso will hold meetings with Uzbekistan’s senior leadership, including President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Head of the Presidential Administration and EBRD Governor Sardor Umurzakov, as well as civil-society organisations.

The EBRD President will co-chair the first plenary session of the Foreign Investors’ Council, which will serve as an important platform for dialogue between foreign investors and the authorities of Uzbekistan.

At the Samarkand EU-Central Asia Connectivity Conference, President Renaud-Basso will talk about the need to identify the most sustainable transport connections between the Central Asian states and Europe, as existing trade corridors are being disrupted by geopolitical events.

In 2021, the EBRD invested almost US$ 690 million (€607 million) in 22 projects in Uzbekistan, making it the largest recipient of Bank funding in the region for the second year running. To date, the EBRD has invested €3.78 billion in 119 projects across the country.
