Project description

A sovereign loan to BiH (the “Borrower”) of up to EUR 50 million, divided into 2 tranches of up to EUR 25 million each (the “Project”). The loan will be on lent via the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (“FBH”) to the Motorways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (“FBHM”). Local commercial banks will provide parallel loans of up to EUR 150 million also in 2 tranches. The first tranche will be committed on signing. The proceeds of the loans will be used for the construction of a 15.4 km long section of Corridor Vc between Mostar North and Mostar South interchanges. This section is to be built to full motorway standard with a dual carriageway. The preliminary design envisages a total of 8 km of tunnels and just under 1 km of bridges and viaducts for the entire section.

The Project will improve the road infrastructure and services in and around the city of Mostar by facilitating the flow of people and goods through Mostar. The project will also contribute to improving resilience to climate change, through adaption of relevant measures into the design. It will also address possible mitigation effect of the Project related to relevant Paris Agreement obligations, notably impact on GHG emissions through the diversion of induced and diverted traffic, as well as impact on local air pollution. Additional climate mitigation efforts are expected from gradual introduction of free pass electronic toll collection (“ETC”) system and implementation of EV charging infrastructure.
