Alexia Latortue to join US Millennium Challenge Corporation
After four years as EBRD Managing Director of Corporate Strategy, Alexia Latortue is moving to a new role. She will be joining the Biden-Harris administration in Washington to serve as Deputy CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a US development agency working to reduce poverty through economic growth.

Heike Harmgart, the Bank’s Managing Director for the southern and eastern Mediterranean, has been recognised as one of 10 most powerful women in business in the Middle East by the magazine Forbes Middle East. She was selected for showing resilience, flexibility, and strength in the face of unprecedented adversity, both in the workplace and in their communities.

Advancing Romanian high-impact entrepreneurship movement
In Romania, the EBRD jointly with the private sector companies Dedem and Globalworth is backing the expansion of Endeavor, a pioneering organisation leading the high-impact entrepreneurship movement worldwide. The Bank supported the opening of Endeavor’s Romanian branch by extending a €450,000 grant from the Turkey-EBRD Cooperation Fund, which is backed by the Republic of Turkey’s Ministry of Treasury and Finance. Endeavour in Romania will be led by the previous EBRD Deputy Director for Romania, Mihnea Craciun.
Promoting green investments in Jordan
In Jordan, the EBRD together with the European Union is introducing the first comprehensive green economy programme, which will help advance green investments in the private sector. The launch of the Green Energy Finance Facility (GEFF) in the country will support Jordan’s transition to a green economy as the country adapts to an increased demand for water and energy due to a substantial population growth.
Financing Egypt’s new dry port development
In Egypt, the EBRD is supporting the construction of a dry port and logistics centre in 10th of Ramadan City with a €1 million contribution to the project’s preparation and procurement. The facility will aim to improve the efficiency of Egypt’s transport infrastructure. Facilitating trade will contribute to better competitiveness of local producers, which will create employment opportunities and support sustainable growth.
