Project description

This project involves the provision of two loans of up to US$70 million, in aggregate, to FE Indorama Agro LLC (“Indorama Agro” or “the “Company”) to support its capital expenditure and working capital needs.  The Project aims to support significant private sector investment in Uzbekistan through the recently-created cotton/textile clusters.  In 2019, the Company started growing cotton in the Kashkadarya and Syrdarya regions of Uzbekistan. The Company's activities involve two cotton farming schemes: direct farming by Indorama Agro and contract farming by independent that engages local farmers to grow and deliver cotton to Indorama Agro under contract with the Company where by the Company pre-finances the farmers.  In accordance with the EBRD’s Environmental and Social Policy the project was categorised “A” requiring the undertaking of a comprehensive Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), and public disclosure of the ESIA and associated documents for a minimum period of 60 days.
