Jonathan Aves joined the EBRD in early 2017 as Senior Political Counsellor for Russia, Central Asia and Mongolia.
Jonathan worked for many years in the UK foreign office serving in Moscow, Tokyo and Yerevan. In London his responsibilities included the South Caucasus and Central Asia, Iraq and the UN.
Jonathan was awarded a PhD in Soviet History by the University of London and worked as a lecturer in Russian history and politics at the LSE and Sussex University. He speaks fluent Russian.
