Project description
Provision of finance for a sovereign-guaranteed loan of up to EUR 210.0 million to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Proceeds of the loan will be on lent to Republika Srpska Motorways and Motorways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The loan will be used to finance the construction of a 13.8 km motorway section between Rudanka interchange (in RS municipality Doboj) and Medakovo interchange (in FBiH municipality Doboj Jug). The Project consists of two sub-sections: (1) “Rudanka – Putnikovo Brdo” in RS and (2) “Inter-entity Border at Putnikovo Brdo – Medakovo” in FBiH.
EIAs have been prepared to meet the national requirements and they incorporate both Project sub-sections. One EIA was prepared in 2006 as part of the whole Corridor Vc project and the second in 2014 for part of the Corridor Vc located in Republika Srpska.
Given that this is an A category project, the Bank has engaged consultants which have critically reviewed the ESIA disclosure packages against the EBRD requirements for ESIA.
The objectives of the project are to support BiH's economic development and contribute to its regional and European integration by improving connectivity between its main cities and between BiH and neighbouring countries.
The Project will facilitate BiH's internal and regional integration by improving its key transport infrastructure. The Project will also promote inclusion through the introduction of apprenticeships and work-based learning programmes for young engineers/students to be employed during construction either as permanent employees or as interns.
