Project Description

A senior loan of up to EUR 15 million to Intesa Sanpaolo Banka d.d. BiH ('ISP BiH') for on-lending to eligible private individuals for housing purposes.

Project Objectives

The proceeds of the loan will be used by ISP BiH to provide long-term financing for residential mortgage lending in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Transition Impact

Transition impact is expected to derive from (i) the expansion of the mortgage market in Bosnia and Herzegovina; (ii) working together with authorities on the introduction of macro prudential standards for mortgage lending and; (iii) reducing the maturity mismatch between assets and liabilties by providing long term funding.

Client Information


ISP BiH is the fourth largest bank in Bosnia and Herzegovina with assets of EUR 954 million and a market share of 6.8% by total assets as of 31 December 2017. The Bank is headquartered in Sarajevo and services the entire territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina through a wide network of branches, regional corporate centres and ATM's. ISP BiH is 99.9% owned by Privredna Banka Zagreb.

For this transaction they will be required to implement the EBRD's Environmental and Social Risk Management Procedures for Mortgage Lending and continue to comply with PRs 2, 4 and 9.
