Project Description

Provision of a senior unsecured WiB loan of EUR 10 million to Banque de Tunisie ("BT").

Project Objectives

On-lending to eligible women led micro, small and medium-sized enterprises ("MSMEs") in Tunisia.

Transition Impact

The EBRD loan will support the women-led MSME market segment and help alleviate the large gender inclusion gaps that were identified in Tunisia in terms of access to finance and employment & business.

Environmental and Social Summary

Categorised FI (ESP 2014). BT is an existing client of the Bank, has adopted an Environmental Policy and Environmental and Social Procedures that meet requirements of Performance Requirement 9 and has human resource management and health and safety systems in compliance with PRs 2 and 4. BT will need to apply their environmental and social procedures to the WiB loan and all sub-loans funded out of EBRD funds, and ensure that sub-borrowers comply with national requirements for environment, health and safety and labour standards.

Technical Cooperation

Financing to BT will be complemented by a technical cooperation programme to provide capacity building for the development of skills, better understanding and financial services tailored to the needs of women-led SMEs.

The TC component is expected to be funded through the EBRD Shareholder Special Fund SEMED.

The TC to women-led SMEs component will be funded by the European Union under the EU Programme d'Appui sur la Competitivite des Services ("PACS") and the EU SEMED Financial Inclusion Programme ("FIP").
