Project description
A senior loan loan of up to EUR 30 million to the Municipality of Bucharest (“City” or “Municipality”) to finance the second phase (Phase 2) of Glina Wastewater Treatment Plant. The loan will be used to co-finance: (i) Extension/upgrading of Glina WWTP to reach full wastewater treatment capacity in line with EU requirements and construction of a sludge incineration plant in line with EU BAT, (ii) Rehabilitation of CASETA and its drainage system, and (iii) Rehabilitation of the main sewer collectors and works at three drainage systems.
Grant financing has already been approved from EU Cohesion Funds, and EIB loan will also co-finance the project.
Once implemented, the Project will lead to: (i) EU-compliant treatment of the entire flow of wastewater, (ii) a reduced level of infiltration in the system and reduced odour, and (iii) an EU-compliant solution for sludge management and disposal. The Phase 2 project is expected to substantially contribute to the reduction of pollution in downstream rivers, including the Danube River and the Black Sea basin.
