The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Matteo Colangeli Head of Albania. Based in Tirana he will take up his position on 1 September and manage the Bank’s engagement in the Western Balkans country as successor to Christoph Denk, who has returned to the EBRD Headquarters as Director, Country Strategies and Results Management.

Matteo Colangeli joined the EBRD Natural Resources team in London in 2005. He also served assignments at the Bank’s resident offices in Kiev and Sofia. Most recently, he was responsible as Senior Banker for the Natural Resources team's activities in south-eastern Europe, Turkey and Central Asia where he was operations leader on a range of complex transactions.

Before joining the EBRD, Mr Colangeli worked at Royal Bank of Scotland in the Debt Capital Markets Origination team and as a Senior Consultant at Arthur Andersen. He holds an MSc in European Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BA in Politics from the University of Sussex.

To date, the EBRD has invested around €1 billion in over 70 projects in various sectors of Albania’s economy. The Bank’s priorities are the sustainable development of the private sector, enhancing the commercialisation of infrastructure projects and promoting sustainable energy and environmentally sound investments.
