BBC Ukrainian Book of the Year 2015 shortlists are revealed

BBC Ukrainian has announced the shortlists for its Book of the Year (Книга року BBC - 2015) and Children’s Book of the Year (Дитяча Книга року BBC - 2015) awards which are presented in partnership with the Cultural Programme of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)

The BBC Ukrainian Book of the Year 2015 shortlist, selected from 15 publications, is as follows:

  • “The Pharmacist” by Yuri Vinnichuk (“Аптекар” Юрій Винничук) - Kharkiv: Фоліо, 2015.
  • “The Carbide” by Andriy Lyubka (“Карбід” Андрій Любка) – Chernivtsi: Книги – ХХІ; Meridian Czernowitz, 2015.
  • “The House by Bating Hallow by Vasil Makhno (“Дім у Бейтінг Голлов” Василь Махно) - Lviv: Видавництво Старого Лева, 2015.
  • “Came  in Droves” by Artyom Chapay (“Понаїхали” Артем Чапай) - Kiev: Нора-Друк, 2015.
  • “Dandelions on the Patio” (Volumes 1 and 2) by Valeriy Shevchuk (“Порослий кульбабами дворик” (2 томи) Валерій Шевчук) -  Ternopil: Навчальна книга - Богдан, 2015.

The BBC Ukrainian Children's Book of the Year 2015 shortlist, selected from eight publications, is as follows:

  • “140 Decibels of Silence” by Andriy Bachinskiy (“140 децибелів тиші” Андрій Бачинський) - Lviv: Видавництво Старого Лева, 2015.
  • “I Can’t Get into the Guinness Book of World Records” by Oksana Lushchevska (“Мені не потрапити до "Книги рекордів Гіннеса" Оксана Лущевська) - Ternopil: Навчальна книга – Богдан, 2014.
  • “Ivasik Telesyuk” by Anton Siyanika (“Івасик Телесюк” Антон Сіяника) – Kiev: Компанія ОСМА, 2015.

The two winning titles will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Conference Hall of Radisson Blue Hotel in Kiev (17-19 Bratska str). 

The winning author in each category will be awarded a Ukrainian hryvnya equivalent of £1,000.  The publishers of the two winning books will have the right to use the logos of the BBC Ukrainian book awards on subsequent editions.
