Natalia Khanjenkova, the new Managing Director for Turkey and Central Asia at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), is taking up her new post today.
The EBRD has created the new position, based in Istanbul, in response to the growing demand for its investments in this region. This is also the first time that a Managing Director has been based in Istanbul, underscoring the importance of Turkey for the Bank and the role of Istanbul as a hub for EBRD operations.
In her new position, Ms Khanjenkova will lead the EBRD’s activities in Turkey and Central Asia including Mongolia, managing a portfolio of over €7 billion. In 2014, the Bank’s investment in this region represented 25 per cent of the EBRD’s total investment across 35 countries where it works.
Ms Khanjenkova began her EBRD career at London headquarters in 1993. She has been based in Moscow since 2007 where she was working as Director in charge of the Bank’s infrastructure and energy business in Russia and then as Managing Director for Russia, overseeing the EBRD operations across the country and a network of six regional offices in addition to the main office in Moscow.
Ms Khanjenkova holds an honours degree in International Economic Relations from MGIMO.
